Being an Online Educator

This was a bit of a frustrating blog post for me.  Not because it is difficult, but I have no interest in being an online educator, so I would much rather be putting my time into something that I could possibly take away for my classroom.  Yes, "Never Say Never," but I would much rather be asked to look at my students and think if I could see any of them benefiting from online education vs. the traditional setting.  Even though that may not be an option right now for them or myself, it could be something to keep in mind for the future and help me think about my instruction for them and if I could integrate some sort of online experience.

  1. I can't remember what grade you teach but I remember it being one of the primary grades 1-3. While I have a hard time envisioning students at those grade levels being fully enrolled in a school with an online-only format I do think they could handle this type of format if broken down into smaller sections. The 1st through 3rd graders I teach have become accustomed to referencing my teacher website so often that they look there for answers to questions they may have before coming to me. (in theory, ha) I could see having students of that age finding success in an online format for a single lesson or larger unit as long as they had a moderator on the regular classroom side of things to help out. Anything with a larger scope than that would have to rely more heavily on a face-to-face support system.
